Arrowtown Field Trip

June 11, 2021 -

On Friday 11 June we had a fabulous day exploring the past at Lakes District Museum in Arrowtown for our Inquiry topic of Ka Mua, Ka Muri (Walking Backwards into the Future).
Students were taken back in time to 1860 and attended a Victorian school lesson in Miss Grey’s school house.
A few boys got the cane when they were caught in the girls playground on a Sunday, instead of being at church.

Students then toured the historic buildings in Arrowtown, so we could build our understanding of how the early Chinese and European gold miners lived.
The Chinese Village, town gaol, church, and houses of now sainted nuns were all discussed and explored.

Our day ended with Amanda from Lakes District Museum teaching us how to pan for gold. Many students had their patience rewarded with a shiny fleck of treasure to take home.
