The 2026 Basin Cross Country was a huge success, with students from Mararoa School and Te Anau School running, skipping, and walking their way around the course with determination and enthusiasm. Tino pai, tamariki – you should all be very proud of yourselves!
The weather kept things interesting, with the day beginning under a blanket of fog before the sunshine finally made an appearance. Next year, we'll be placing an order for a little more sun and a little less fog!
A huge thank you goes to our incredible Mararoa School community. Once again, you outdid yourselves. For a small crew, you certainly know how to put on a fantastic event. The ever-popular sausages and delicious baking were, as always, a highlight of the day.
We are especially grateful to Tarn and Murray Willans for generously allowing us to use their property for the event, and to Beverly and Haydn for helping set up the course and ensuring everyone made it to the finish line after completing the correct route.
Congratulations to the students who have qualified to represent the Basin at the Northern Cross Country. We wish you all the very best for the event.
